LinkedIn Posting Rules: Limits, Scheduling and Video

Posting on LinkedIn starts in the share box at the top of the homepage, and every post type has its own limits. This topic gathers what LinkedIn Help and LinkedIn's developer documents say about post length, scheduling, polls, documents, video and the Post proofreader. Four guides in this topic are live. One covers the LinkedIn character limit, How to Post on LinkedIn gives the posting steps, How to Schedule LinkedIn Posts gives the scheduling steps and LinkedIn Video lists the video limits and upload steps. Four more are planned. They cover writing a post, carousels, polls and hashtags. We have not posted from a test account ourselves, so the facts below come from LinkedIn and two outside tools.

Posting Steps in Brief

LinkedIn Help puts the steps in four moves. Click Start a post, set who sees it and who comments, add your text or media, then click Post. Our full posting guide covers the mobile steps, the photo and link rules and what you can edit afterwards.

A draft can be saved and edited later, including from another device. If a post goes past 3,000 characters, LinkedIn Help points you to its Publishing Platform for an article. LinkedIn can also limit how many posts a member makes in a set time. A member who hits a limit can verify the profile or try later.

LinkedIn Help says a post can have up to 3,000 characters. Every other limit, from the connection note to the headline and comment, sits in our guide to the LinkedIn character limit. It marks which numbers LinkedIn confirms and which come from outside tools.

LinkedIn Help lets you schedule from the clock icon in the post window. The rules below come from two Help articles, and our full scheduling guide adds the mobile steps and how to edit or delete.

Item Personal profile Company profile
Who can schedule Any member Super admin or content admin
Range 10 minutes to 3 months ahead 1 hour to 3 months ahead
Not supported Events and jobs Events, multiple photos, reshares, polls, jobs and service posts

Scheduled times convert to UTC from your device time zone. You can view, edit, reschedule or delete a scheduled post. A scheduled company post cannot be promoted in Campaign Manager until it is published.

Post on LinkedIn: Polls and Documents

LinkedIn Help says a poll has two to four options and a default length of one week. LinkedIn's developer document lists 1, 3, 7 and 14 days, and that document covers the API and not the app. It also says poll content cannot change after creation.

The developer document for documents sets a 100 MB limit and 300 slides or sheets. It accepts PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX and PDF files. LinkedIn Help lists no document limit in the articles we read.

Our full video guide now lists the post rules from LinkedIn Help. The ad rules sit in LinkedIn Ads Formats and Setup. LinkedIn's developer document, updated 2 March 2026, lists 3 seconds to 30 minutes, 75 KB to 500 MB and MP4. LinkedIn Help gives 15 minutes and 5 GB for a video post, so we follow LinkedIn Help. The developer document also states a 5 GB maximum in one field, so its numbers conflict. Tella, an outside tool, gave 10 minutes and 5 GB in 2024 with no LinkedIn source.

Post Proofreader and AI

Post proofreader is a Premium tool, says LinkedIn Help in an article last updated about three weeks before 25 October 2026. It edits what you write and does not write a post for you. It supports English drafts only, and Premium Career and Premium Business members can use it.

Option What it does
Review Fixes spelling, grammar and punctuation
Shorten Makes the post more concise
Clarify Makes the post easier to read

Changes show inline and nothing applies until you accept it. LinkedIn also says that excessive posting or an automation tool can limit the reach of your posts. We name no third party AI tool here, because LinkedIn Help does not name one.

What is Still Unconfirmed

LinkedIn Help gave no limit for headlines or comments, so those numbers come from outside tools. LinkedIn Help also gave no document limit and no video limit for regular posts. The developer documents describe the API. Check the post window in your own account before you rely on any limit.
