LinkedIn Blocking Rules, Limits and What Blocked Members See
Blocking someone on LinkedIn cuts the profile link between you and that member, and LinkedIn does not notify the member. This topic gathers what LinkedIn Help says about the steps, the effects and the limits. One guide is live and two are planned. The live guide is How to Block Someone on LinkedIn, which gives the full steps for desktop and mobile. The planned guides cover unblocking a member and reporting a member. We have not blocked anyone from a test account, so every fact below comes from LinkedIn Help.
Blocking Steps in Brief
LinkedIn Help gives the desktop steps below in an article last updated about two months before 25 October 2026. It also has steps for iOS, Android and a mobile browser.
- Open the profile Go to the profile of the member you want to block.
- Choose Report or block Click the More button under the profile photo and choose Report/Block.
- Select Block Choose Block with the member name in the menu.
- Confirm Click Block to finish, or Back to review your options.
The full guide adds the mobile steps and the fix for a missing Block option. To undo it, click the Me icon, choose Settings and Privacy, open Visibility and select Blocking. Find the name in your blocked list and click Unblock.
What Blocking does on LinkedIn
LinkedIn Help lists the effects below for both people.
| Area | What changes |
|---|---|
| Profiles | You cannot open one another's profiles |
| Messages | You cannot message one another |
| Shared content | You cannot see one another's shared content |
| Connection | An existing connection ends |
| Profile viewers | You do not appear under Who's Viewed Your Profile for one another |
| Recommendations | Endorsements and recommendations from that member are removed |
| Suggestions | LinkedIn stops suggesting you to one another |
Blocking also stops a blocked subscriber from receiving your newsletter. Only you can unblock the member.
Limits and What Still Shows
LinkedIn Help states the limits below.
- There is no limit on how many members you can block.
- You wait 48 hours before you block the same member again after you unblock them.
- Recommendations from a blocked member cannot come back after you unblock them.
- With more than 2,000 blocked members you need LinkedIn support to unblock someone.
- You cannot block members who view your profile in private mode.
- Group members cannot block group admins.
A blocked member can still see what you make public. That covers your public profile, public group posts and comments on Top Voices posts. You can change your public profile settings to limit that. Mutual connections can also share content from a blocked member into your feed, and a mobile app can show cached data until you sign out and in again.
Spam Comments on LinkedIn
Blocking works on a member. A spam comment is a separate task. Under your own posts, you can delete a comment, report it, or limit who can comment. A company profile admin can delete comments on a company post. Our LinkedIn Comments and Moderation Tools topic covers those controls.
LinkedIn Help also says you can block members and company profiles from commenting on your posts. We found no LinkedIn article that describes a setting which deletes spam comments by itself, so we make no claim that one exists.
What is Still Unconfirmed
LinkedIn Help does not say how fast a block takes effect. We did not try the steps on an account, so we cannot say how the menu looks today. The overview article was last updated about two years before 25 October 2026 and the steps article about two months before. Check the Report or block menu in your own account before you rely on a detail.
