- Definition first One or two plain sentences, before any background.
- One short example Quoted from a named source with a link or written by us and labelled as ours.
- The platform and a date The platform is named when the meaning changes from app to app. Terms change fast, so every entry will show when we last confirmed it.

Where we have tested a feature or seen a term in use ourselves, the entry carries a Twist. Our editorial policy explains how the Twist works and how we use AI.

A
FAQ
What is a social media glossary?
It is a list of the slang, acronyms and marketing terms people use on apps like Instagram and TikTok, with a plain definition for every term. With it you can read a comment, a caption or a client brief and know what it means.
Is social media slang the same on every platform?
No. A word can mean one thing on one app and another on a different app. When the meaning changes, the glossary entry names the app.
Can I suggest a term for the glossary?
Yes. Email connect@smtwist.com with the word and where you saw it. We check it before it goes in.
How often is the glossary updated?
We add entries in batches and recheck a term when its use changes. Every release is logged on our change log.
